Wilder Elementary School provides an academically challenging, safe and nurturing learning environment.  Our world class educators use data to drive instruction, which fosters students’ growth and develops the skills as well as life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.  Educators utilize Measures of Academic Progress (MAP), the Next Step Guided Reading Assessment of students, benchmark assessments, and running records as primary sources for student data.

In an effort to create a world class learning environment, teachers use instructional best practices such as Café, Daily 5, Fantastic 5, Drops in a Bucket, DOL, Technology, Hands-On-Instruction, Differentiated Instruction, Flexible Grouping, and informational text daily to help students develop knowledge and skills to compete locally as well as globally.  Students use IPads, Lego construction, and hands-on science experiments to enhance math and science skills.  In addition, students are able to participate in an after school tutoring program that focuses on math and reading skills by using technology. Quality instruction and Technology are supported at Wilder to increase student engagement.

We promote life and career characteristics with an emphasis on civic duty and a commitment to community service.  At Wilder Elementary, our caring students and staff participate in service learning for Relay for Life, MDA, Jump Rope for Heart, Leukemia Society, United Ministries, Goodwill, and other organizations.  To promote good citizenship in our students, we recognize, via television show or by announcements, Terrific Kids, Writer of the Week, and Soaring High character.

The staff and community share the mission to provide all children with an opportunity to excel academically and socially.  In order to best prepare our students for college and career readiness, we provide our teachers with ongoing professional development activities focused on delivery of instruction using research-based instructional strategies.  In addition, schools within the school allow teachers to collaborate on many topics that help support classroom instruction and professional growth.
